Why did he do it?

In Loughner’s youtube video he states, “my favorite activity is conscience dreaming... some of you don’t dream-- sadly.” Loughner was implying that he lives in a dream world, he’s awake in the sense that he’s functioning, but he’s not facing reality. Loughner lives in Arizona’s district 8, which is served by Rep. Gabriellle Gifford (msnbc.msn.com). according to previous statements made by Loughner, he believes that over half of the people living in District 8 are illiterate, and the government isn’t doing anything to help them because the government is brainwashing the people. Gabrielle Gifford was the center of his attack. Her wwebsite states that she supports the increase of solar/renewable energy in district 8. It is rumor that Loughner was acting on subliminal instructions from Palin and Sharon Angle to take Gabrielle Gifford out, but Conor P. Williams believes this isn’t true at all, and Loughner was just using common anti government rhetoric. After reviewing Lougner’s youtube video’s and reading comments that previous classmates said about him, I can pretty much infer that Loughner was somewhat mentally unstable. Previous classmates stated that “you can tell there was something not right about him.” Which brings me back to the beginning of my post where I quoted Loughner. He said himself conscience dreaming is his favorite activity. From listening to him talk you would believe he was crazy. But I believe you have to be somewhat competent to plan a crime, especially one of the nature he committed. So in conclusion, from my findings, I believe Loughner is a simple case of “monkey see, monkey do.” He was a college drop out who obviously didn’t have a lot going for his life so his crime made him feel important, as if he was getting the government back for doing what he believes to be a poor job in district 8. This explination of why may not be the most interesting, but as Ranke stated, history may seem colorless or boring, but the point is to show how things happen.

  1. Everyday he felt as if he lived a life as a sleepwalker. This could be related to his possible diagnosis of schizophrenia and how he lives a life of hallucinations. He is confused with his perception of the public as he at one point can feel the reality of the real world and then at another point in time feel like a "sleepwalker" where he is delusional and can't fully interpret what is actually going on. I wonder if these feelings also have anything to do with is drug usage...
