Am I Lacking?
So what I took out of this writing was basically that there is a "spirit" of modern capitalism and that as individuals we all are seen to have a duty to prosper. What's more, there is capitalistic ethic or obligation we should all feel towards our professional career. I think this is a really easy concept for all of us to fit into our mentalite' because we are all in college here to accomplish something. Due to this, in searching for a personal experience where this is displayed I could think of too many to count. So, I then decided to take a different route. Currently I work as a manager for a hotel and for the most part am pretty okay with my job. But, since I have been in this position over a year now, recently my boss has been pressuring to start training for an advanced position, and I really don't think I want to. The "spirit" just isn't with me. I can somewhat relate to Webers reference to Jacob Fugger and his business associate speaking of when then should quit working. "What is the former case was an expression of commercial daring and a personal inclination morally neutral, in the latter takes on the character of an ethically coloured maxim for the conduct of life." Now I of course am not declining this opportunity with the same intent of well being for others, but rather, I don't really feel like working longer hours for only a slightly higher pay. In this sense I guess my outlook is more towards what Weber describes as traditionalism. Of course you can all rest assured that I will not be the downfall for modern capitalism for with in me somewhere is the desire to improve and prosper, I think that part of my "spirit" is just hibernating until I finish college. Someday I will embrace and internalize the non-natural capitalistic values thrust upon us all by society.

I totally agree with your statement about how you rather would not work longer hours for a slightly higher pay. I guess I have more of the traditional capitalist in me than the modern one. It's all about working less hours but getting paid more for those hours for me.
